Privacy

The reality is that privacy is becoming more difficult to protect because of the level of transparency that our world has come to. Almost everything that we do leaves a trace on the internet, from sending text messages to shopping online or even walking by a security camera. While technology has made our lives easier, it has also made it easier to collect, store, and sometimes misuse our personal information.

Social media sites like Instagram and TikTok promote people to share their lives with everyone, without even realizing how permanent that information can be. Pictures, locations and personal information can be saved, shared, or even used by strangers. At the same time, companies track our online activities to target ads, which means that our interests and behaviors are constantly being tracked.

The issue of privacy also goes beyond the internet. Smartphones, smart home devices, and even cars track our locations and activities. We have completely gone blind to how absurd it is that we don't even have privacy when all devices are shut off. Now, there are glasses that are affordable that have a small built in camera with 4k level quality. Imagine you tell a coworker a secret and make sure they leave their phone out of a room, you still have to worry about the a little device that you thought only helped him see.

The world is also becoming a place where judgment is welcomed when you don't use social media. You're looked at as "out of touch" and "lame" because of your decision to not share your personal life with a bunch of strangers. This "social media lifestyle" has gotten so out of hand to the point where "influencers" are getting paid more than some Professional Football Players. The way this world has been able to glorify and finacially compensate people sharing their business and leaving little to no room on privacy is a recipe for disaster.

AI in the Newsroom

Alright, whether anyone likes it or not, AI is here and it is here to stay.

The question is: how will it affect me in my future workplace?

I began to think about my own future in Journalism, particularly in sideline reporting. The fact is, AI is already impacting sports media coverage, from instant statistics to automated highlight reels.

As someone who is interested in a career in broadcast journalism, it’s somewhat overwhelming to think about the potential for AI to be a tool. (which it already is). Journalists can have instant information, have AI write scripts and leads, while also saving a lot of time and hitting those tight deadlines that Journalists have.

But it also leads to a rather terrifying question: if AI can produce scripts, statistics and even voiceover narration, what does that mean for human journalists trying to get their foot in the door? The whole point  of being a Journalist is being the source of information. How are you going to keep a job if your competing with a literal robot.

You mean to tell me that people are going to look at as a first option as a source?

You have to sit-down, turn the tv on, wait until the news comes on, depending what time it is and wait for my part to show up as a Live Reporter. Rather than just opening up your phone and asking ChatGPT whats going on and be done with it.

I have been so worried about AI that I decided to adopt a minor in Strategic Communication.

At least to then have a fall back in Personal Relations if my dream job is over taken by AI.

Eight Values of Free Expression

The 8 Values of Free Expression are: Truth, Self-Government, Autonomy, Safety Valve, Stability, Change, Tolerance and Self-Fulfillment. In this post I will be going in-depth on the value of Change.

The value of change: The value of change acknowledges the freedom of expression that allows our society to contemplate and critcise current laws, traditions and power structures and then attempt to change and improve them.

Many of the advances and movements in our history, such as the civil rights, women's rights, labor and voting movements, started as unpopular ideas. To show the importance of the value of change, I WOULD NOT BE HERE WRITING THIS BLOG IF THIS VALUE DIDN'T EXIST IN THIS COUNTRY.

Protection of speech that is questioning or wrongful  to the constitution guards against a government forcing a state of silence or silence-related repression in society with respect to ideas that are new or in minority, simply because they represent a level or form of dissent to authority. The value of change demonstrates that the power of free expression is necessary, not only to ensure democratic systems, but also to enhance or improve democracy.

The value of change doesn't just come into play when its about race. It comes in when it comes to how this country is developed.

If we took out race and said "what has the value of change done" then there would still be a large list. Some including women voting rights, food transparency, Roe Wade and even now with the epstien transparency act that's going around due to the President buidling his campaign off of exposing the pedophiles that are in those files.

Without the Value of change, most of the laws we see today that keep each American family safe, would be nonexistent. It is important that no matter whos the Presdient of our Nation, WE SHOULD NOT GIVE THEM POWER TO OVERTURN THE PROGRESS OF CHANGE!

My Top 5 News Sources

I believe the
AP NEWS is one of the most neutral sources to date. The Associated Press has a long standing reputation for emphasizing accuracy, fact based reporting and journalistic integrity. Its reporting focuses on presenting information without loaded language or opinion, allowing readers to form their own conclusions. Because AP content is used by news organizations around the world, it follows strict standards to maintain credibility and consistency.

I also check
CNN, not because it is completely neutral, but to better understand the narratives and perspectives being presented. Recognizing potential bias helps me critically evaluate the information rather than accept it at face value. CNN’s wide variety of national and international coverage allows me to compare how the same stories are framed across different outlets.

I also check Fox News , not because it is entirely objective, but to understand the perspectives and messaging it promotes. Being aware of potential bias allows me to critically analyze the information rather than accept it at face value. Fox News covers a wide range of national and international topics, which makes it useful for comparing how stories are framed across different outlets.

The Miami Herald  is a local newspaper from the city where I live. It covers high school sports, local government and issues that directly affect the community. Because of its focus on local reporting, it provides coverage of stories that national outlets may overlook. Reading local news helps me stay informed about events and decisions that impact my daily life.

ESPN is a site I check often because of my love for sports such as basketball and football. It provides in depth coverage of games, athletes and league developments across multiple sports. In addition to reporting scores and statistics, ESPN features analysis and commentary that often sparks debate among fans. Its ability to quickly break major sports news makes it a reliable source for staying up to date.
